PRESS QUOTES

PRESS RELEASE

VŌDŪN are a heavy, weird & soulful, afro-futuristic tribe from London - A raw and powerful slice of voodoo fuelled turbo-metal riffage not to be missed. After their debut album 'POSSESSION', highly acclaimed by the likes of Classic Rock, Mojo, Kerrang, Metal Hammer and The Guardian News Paper, VŌDŪN received even more praise for their follow up album 'ASCEND'.

They rock like no one else, and their mesmerising live shows have seen them stun & entertain audiences on tours and at festivals across the UK & Europe, including Hell Fest, ArcTangent, Blood Stock Festival, Desertfest and Afropunk.

Since the release of 'POSSESSION', VŌDŪN have been sought after both as a band for their raw and powerful live performances, and for their power-house vocalist, Chantal Brown and thoroughly immersive stage show. They have supported Orange Goblin at Koko, in London, and have also both toured with and loaned vocals to albums for Uncle Acid and Turbowolf. The first single entitled 'SPIRITS PAST', from their second album, has been recorded with award winning producer Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood, Turbowolf), which sets the tone once again, for a completely unique heavy and eclectic follow up album.

“Metal trio VODUN want to celebrate vodou with their powerful riffs... A kind of magic.”

– The Guardian, Live Review

“... Like Aretha Franklin fronting Royal Blood after imbibing ayahuasca... jolts from idle percussive pitter-patter and axe noodling into riff-laced grooves...”

– Mojo, Album Review

““There’s a gripping intensity to this music that’s very hard to shake.” 8/10

– Classic Rock, Live Review

The music of their second album 'ASCEND' is more sophisticated; the canvas broader, the details more vivid and varied.  Their palette now embraces a healthy does of extra Percussion, Baritone Saxophone, and vocal arrangements that pair Chantal’s behemoth holler with harmonies, chants and howls, a full-spectrum of sound that suits their polymorphous attack. The solidity that Linz Hamilton (Guitar) brings to the table lends newfound emphasis to Vodun’s sophomore volley of inspirational fierceness, a suite that takes a sober look at the mess the world’s in today and offers some much needed perspective. The band also incorporated another lead voice on the song 'New Doom', which was kindly provided by Chris Georgidias from the band Turbowolf.

Ascend is, unabashedly, revolution music, its ten tracks a hurricane of mystic heaviness, spiritual soul and furious positivity, its colossal riffage & rhythms allied to inspirational lyrics and powerful melodies to deliver food for the soul and fire to inflame uprisings. At heart, it’s an album of musical celebration, and heavy playfulness – lyrically of resistance, and of solidarity.

Fulled by their new drummer, Lorena Cachito who joined them earlier on this year (2020), Vodun are excited to be writing new material. With Lorena hailing from Galicia in Spain, with Brazilian heritage the band's eclectic influences are only set to grow and embed them into another spectrum of heavy sounds. Announced for Raw Power Festival & Rock Im Wald this year, Vodun look forward to introducing their fans to Lorena.

“TThere’s a gripping intensity to this music that’s very hard to shake.” 8/10

– Classic Rock, Live Review 2018

“There are fewer recent precedents for Vodun's formula-bucking amalgam of heavy metal and afrobeat… This intense spillage proves a powerful elixir on the pounding, primal Spirits Past, crazy volatile Rituals and New Doom, a searing duet with Turbowolf's Chris Geordiadis… On such soul-searing evidence, the only way is up”

– Mojo, ASCEND Album Review 2018

“Preposterously exciting and unremittingly inventive… Ascend hits the target because it so obviously comes from a place of sincerity, even while accruing cool points along the way” 8/10
– Metal Hammer, Live Review 2018

“The aesthetic, the musicianship, the songcraft, the musical references, all create a cohesive whole that prove Vodun are on the edge of becoming one of contemporary rock's most vital and exciting bands. Spirits past, present and future – take heed: Vodun dun good.”

– The Quietus, 'ASCEND' Album Review 2018
